It was only supposed to be a cast and crew party for Urgent Care, but it turned out to be much more thanks to Visa...

The Nominees

I don't know if everyone else is on the official 48 hour mailing list, but if not - they just announced the nominees...

AND WE WEREN'T AMONG THEM!!!!!

I've already begun the formal protestation procedures and am currently looking into the possibility of a class-action suit in order to rectify what is clearly the result of a vast conspiracy to prevent our film from reaching a wider audience and breaking wide- open the exploitation of innocent paramedics as prostitute-playthings by the progressively-aged.

Ok, maybe not. I can't say I'm not disappointed - after our screening I really did feel we had a good chance at winning something. That said I'm still really happy with the finished film and I think we still stand up there with the best of them - and the experience was definitely incredible. We came together as a team and put something together that we can all be proud of - and with luck we'll do it again... It's already planted the seeds future projects in my mind.

The awards screening is this Wednesday in San Francisco (full details below). I'm still planning to go and see the winning films, and Tony is also planning to go - it doesn't start until 8:30, so if anyone else is interested maybe we can meet up beforehand for dinner or something.

So now it's time to look back on the film and experience and learn what we can from it so that we'll be ready for next year.

Or, perhaps, August 10th?



IT DONNED ON ME's executive producer sent the above email out last week to the team. I couldn't help but laugh because I really didn't expect that kind of response from our stoic fearless leader. I do have to admit, I was very disapointed when I received the news that Urgent Care did not receive any nominations because I really thought that we would have gotten something. But that's ok. The bottom line is that we produced a project that we are proud of, and that's what is most important to me. Tonight was the awards ceremony and screening in Delores Park. Even though we did not receive any nominations, I still wanted to see the other films. I'm glad I did because I got see what the judges are looking for. It's not completely over for Urgent Care yet, because there still is the Life Takes Visa Invitationals. Who knows, Visa may select us! Urgent Care

Making a film in 48 hours is not easy, and I have bags under my eyes to prove it. Nonetheless, the IT DONNED ON ME team did it! I am very proud of our final product. When our film was screened at the Embarcadero Theater in San Francisco, I felt this great sense of pride. Seeing Urgent Care on the screen and feeling that sense of camaraderie from my team made me feel really good. As corny as this may sound, I really did learn a thing or two about team work from this whole project. I've always been a solo kinda guy when it comes to my art, so teaming up with nine other people made me a bit nervous. In the end, though, it was worth it. All my life, people have always told me that there is no "I" in team, but I would always respond, "Yeah, but there's ME." What I learned most from this whole experience is that I no longer look at that word for it's spelling, but I can now fully comprehend the true meaning of the word "team." It donned on me...

Hello SAN FRANCISCO 48HFP Filmmakers—

Congrats on a great event in the Bay Area this year. We wanted to take a minute to let you know the next steps in the Visa "Life Takes" Invitational process.

At this moment, the San Francisco 48HFP judges have begun reviewing your films. The films will be judged on the local level for all of our regular awards, including the "Best Film" and "Runner-Up Best Film." The official "Best of San Francisco" screening will take place on July 18th, at which time the SF awards will be announced.

Next—Films will be sent to Visa for consideration for the Top 10 Finalists from San Francisco. The "Best of San Francisco" and the "Runner-up Best of San Francisco" will be automatically selected for the Top 10. The other 8 spots are at the discretion of Visa based on the criteria in the official rules.

The Top 10 Finalists in San Francisco (along with the Top 10 in New York and Top 10 in Los Angeles) will each receive a $500 Visa Gift Card to compete on the weekend of September 7-9 to make another 48 Hour Film. Invitational guidelines to be announced soon.

The best of these films will screen in San Francisco on September 29 at the Visa "Life Takes" Invitational Screening and Awards Party. More party details to come. From the 30 films, the judges will select the "Grand Prize winner," the "first place winner," and the "second place winner." Prizes are $10,000, $5,000 and $2,500 Visa Gift Cards.

We expect to have Visa's decision of the Top 10 Finalists for San Francisco by the end of July.
